Let me tell ya a little about how we got our names. The two of us obviously planned out dressing alike in our goofy outfits. And some of the ladies on our team decided that we should be nicknamed "Ta" and "Ta." Well it went on from there. Next we were called "Tit" and "Tit." But I guess somewhere along the way they decided that "Tit" and "Tat" were the official walk names for us!(A design I doodled up for a CD cover for all of the pictures taken during the walk).
We had a walking team of 11 ladies (below) and numerous supporters from all over the U.S. who were called "The Babes." As a team we managed to raise $22,000 in our goal of $27,000 by the date of the walk. Our leader LeAnn (below) was diagnosed with breast cancer and has undergone rounds of chemo and a double mastectomy and we all walked for her, as well as others close to us.
It all started on a very brisk morning between 5am and 6am at the bottom of the base at Keystone Resort, CO. With crisp fresh air and stunning mountain/cloud scenery. There were quite a few amusing things that people had done to "Save The Tatas."
Over 1,400 walkers raised more than $2.6 Million Dollars in the fight against breast cancer.
A team favorite was a pin LeAnn wore on her head that said "stop the WAR in my RACK."
The scenery was spectacular the entire 26 miles. This was during lunch on Dillon Lake.
Some of our ladies thought it looked much like the opening scene from "The Sound of Music," so that is what they did, they sang and spun...
This is at Mile 13 after the 1st day of walking...time for much needed food and sleep at the Wellness Village. After this day, Tit and myself were the only ones to continue on the next day with the last 13 miles of the walk. LeAnn had to stop because believe it or not, she was currently undergoing chemo and still managed to walk 13 miles. And all of the other ladies were from much lower altitudes such as Kansas, Alabama and Florida...and they were feeling it.
Field of tents at the Wellness Village.
The next morning while strolling through Frisco, CO. I grabbed one of the free papers and took a gander
A name flower. Tit added LeAnn's name, and I added my friends Sandy and Ellie's names...they are all survivors of brest cancer.
The long hot stretch to Breckenridge, CO
Before this experience, I never knew breast had so many different names and sayings associated with them.
The finish was held at the base of the Gondola at Breckenridge Resort, CO.
The walking survivors.
A lot of emotions flowed out of everyone that weekend.
We are still trying to raise donations for the walk because the fight against breast cancer won't end until we've found a cure.
