"Liberty Skis"

You may remember last March I posted about another Liberty Skis contest. I made up a little video for their "One Amazing Minute" video contest.  http://nolasvoboda-accidentalartist.blogspot.com/2012/03/in-other-contest-news.html

Well, low and behold, I didn't win. But, it turned out that wasn't the point. After the contest was over, Liberty contacted me about an intriguing opportunity that I just couldn't refuse. This fall, I became a Brand Ambassador for Liberty Skis! Whoop! I am very proud to be a part of and represent Liberty as they are my favorite ski company. And not just because I like their skis. Liberty makes all of their skis with a bamboo backbone. Bamboo is strong, light, eco friendly. They also offer the best warranty in the industry at 3 years. All of Liberty's skis are created with the help of wind power. And, they are just super great when it comes to customer service. Awesome!

And so, with that in mind, I bring to you a little more winter stoke and another ski video featuring Liberty Skis!

"From My New Life In The Mountains"

I would like to start this post by apologizing for my lack of consistent blogging. It has been two months since my move to the great San Juan Mountains, and I have been quite a slacker at keeping everyone updated in the going ons of my new life.

I have been a very busy girl with all there is to explore in my new surroundings. The seasons have moved from lush green and nearly constant rain, to days of blue skies and golden/orange/red leaves, to brown grasses and snow covered peaks. I have found myself without much connection to the rest of the world and with way too much to go see and do. Below is a summary of my new life from the beginning of August to the end of September.

My cute teeny little new town. Rico, Colorado. Population: 200 or so!
There are no longer flaming orange/red sunsets for me. There is now a time when the sun goes behind a mountain and light stays in the sky for a few hours.
I have been doing A LOT of fishing...oh yes I have!
This would be the ultimate zipline!
This road could lead one to the Colorado Trail and eventually to Silverton or Durango!
Exploring the random trail behind the house!
A scene I see every morning and evening to and from work!
8.25.12 Taking the scenic route up Woods Lake Trail to Navajo Basin on our way to climb 14,017 ft. Wilson Peak. We did a 14 mile loop that day!
Gladstone Peak, Mt. Wilson and El Diente in our sights!
Navajo Lake
Navajo Basin behind us.
At the Rock of the Ages Mine
From the Rock of the Ages Saddle.
One mile left and our final push up the hardest part, our destination behind us!
Looking for any signs of a trail.
"Straddle that mountain, Bitch!"
Gladstone and Mt. Wilson behind.
Sitting on the false summit, looking up at at our challenging climb up the to the summit.
Hug a mountain!
The view from the top!
Tebow tribute with the WhichWich bag!
Looking back down at the false summit and the rest.
Made a loop to go back down the Rock of the Ages Trail
This little feller came right up to us!
Looking back up at our peak.
Wilson Peak the next morning through a telescope from Woods Lake Campground! Someone is on top!
I have been back to Grand Junction quite frequently to get my desert fix in!

Meet Bob. I nearly ran Bob over. In return for not doing so, he posed for me!
Had to make it back to Palisade for the annual tradition of the Colorado Mountain Winefest!
During Powderhorn Resort's Fall Fest, we biked the West Bench trail to the first lift. Then rode down the service roads to the lodge for music and beer!
I tend to like to drive back from Grand Junction to Telluride for work on Monday mornings. Glad I did because I finally got to see the first snow of the season on Mt. Sneffels!
Driving into Rico after work, the clouds parted to create a glow of colors on Dolores Mountain behind Rico.
Just a thousand feet or so above my new office, the snow is falling.
The morning of September 26, the first snow on Expectation Mountain, as seen from my front deck!
And a short time later, down the road. I took this shot of 14,017 ft. Wilson Peak on my way to work. Hard to believe just a month earlier I was standing on top of the majestic mountain!
I love rear view shots!

Okay, so it wasn't exactly September, but it sure felt like it in Cortez, CO! On my way to New Mexico, I had to take a slight detour to check out Phil's World!

"The Things I Have Been Doing, Now That Spring Has Sprung!"

It is that perfect time of year again! The time where one who lives in Colorado can hike and snowboard and bike and ski and, well the list goes on! Me? Right now I like to do anything that has to do with a bike and anything to do with strapping some sliding sticks on my feet and zooming down a mountain at unhumanly death like speeds. I'll get around to hiking at some point cause right now, I feel the need for speed...humanized speed that is! I have also been doing a bunch of garden/sprinkler prep and yes of course, some designing as well! Stay tuned for more on the design front!

"In Other Contest News"

Yes, I know. I am a contest whore. Especially when it comes to winning snow sliding equipment. And even more so when it happens to involve my favorite snow play companies! Back in January, Liberty Skis kicked off another contest that results in the potential to win their skis. And you know I had to get in on that...again! It is called the "One Amazing Minute" contest. The rules are simple; create a one minute video featuring Liberty Skis and submit it to them for a chance to win.

Now I don't have all the resources I would like to put together a video to the extent that I would like (i.e. professional camera equipment and film making devises), but I do as you know have access to a GoPro. As well as my 10 year old Mac iBook G3 version 10.3.9 with whatever version of iMovie and Garage Band it came with. And by golly I know how to use em! The GoPro has captured my adventures in way that I could never have imagine to do with any of my point and shoots, so it goes on pretty much every activity I do.

The season so far has been pretty wonderful to my friend Holly (who rides Liberty's '10 Jinx ski she pick up at Habitat for Humanity for $12 last fall) and myself (with my '10 Liberty Double Helix's). We have had plenty of fun fresh fluffy days early in the Grand Mesa backcountry before the avi danger got too high as well as many fantastic fresh fluffy days at our local resort Powderhorn. We even managed to sneak in a Liberty Demo in Crested Butte in early December to see what all the new rocker technology in this year's skis was all about. And because we have AT setups on our skis, there will be many great days after the resorts close!

As the contest ends March 15, I decided to buckle down for the last few weeks and really get to compiling all of the footage I had from these skis so far this season. As it turns out, one minute is a really hard time frame. It could be one nice long powder run, multiple park shots, a slideshow, crazy angles, goofy stuff, bits from an entire season, etc. I picked out a few my most favorite things to do/ways to ski on my Libertys, drummed up some beats in Garage Band and got down to editing.
Eventually I plan to turn this video into a compilation of our an entire season, featuring even more of our backcountry days, groomer days and all around ski fun. I think it would be fantastic to make a blooper video solely on the bloopers that came from days on the Libertys for this contest (there have been some GOOD ones), but I don't know if a person can have more than one entry and really there just isn't enough time for me to make another flick. I will save them for my end of the year, welcoming the new year blooper video!

Enjoy!

"Patience Isn't Always A Virtue"

Because if that were true, I wouldn't have had the opportunity to experience the best snow of the season thus far at Powderhorn Resort...sometimes impatience can be a blessing!

Some pre-season GoPro footage from a couple treks up Powderhorn Resort before they opened on December 15, 2011.

"CB Mini Vaca"

Took off to Crested Butte March 26-27, 2011 for a much needed weekend snow play get-a-way! FESTevol happened to be the event of the weekend and Icelantic was there to demo skis.

Day 1: A bluebird day demoing Icelantic's new 11/12 Gypsy and the 10/11 Pilgrim and Keeper.

Day 2: A powder day and Camp 4 Coffee in hand! Tried out Icelantic's new 11/12 Gypsy and the 10/11 Oracle in the fluff...and took a run with Dustin from Icelantic!

"Experiments with a GoPro"

This month of March has been a fun month. The weather has been off and on...off and not so nice on the weekends when I'm off and on and wonderfully beautiful during the week when I'm working. That hasn't stopped me from getting out on the two wheeled peddler! Coinciding with that is a new devise that is in constant need of experimenting with! The GoPro HD Helmet Hero POV (point of view) camera. This thing films in high definition and can film in every resolution up to 1080p and 60 frames per second. For most sports and activities they suggest staying in 960p, which is where I've just been leaving it.

My goal with this camera is not to capture the same ol shots as everyone else in the world. But to shoot the things I do and get creative with angles and hopefully capture anything and everything funny! Here is one of my most recent experiments...
