Gettin a lil peeved...

I have recently discovered through a serious lack of ski resort advertising in the paper that, there are a few Colorado Ski Resorts out there that seem to think that we Northwestern Slopers don't go "over the hills, through the trees, across the rivers" to hit new pow pow. WTF!! I know, I know handfuls of people willing to travel to find the freshest snow!

No I don't want to rag on these resorts too much cause I love 'em, but I'm talkin
bout...ehem...Loveland, Monarch, Durango, Wolf Creek...and any resort on the more Eastern side of the divide. They think us Northwestern Slopers could just go to Sunlight, Powderhorn, Aspen, Vail, Steamboat, Telluride, Crested Butte bla bla, so why would we go out of our way to go there? HELLO! Most of those "closer" areas are UBER UBER pricey AND a bundle of 'em are just as far away. On top of that, the only way to afford some of them is to buy specific passes which break our pockets and keep us from going anywhere else!!

Another thought, Monarch is a specific area that doesn't think we would go that far. But they offer Powderhorn season pass holders 3 free days at Monarch. If they think that those who live in Grand Junction and surrounding areas only ski at Powderhorn (which is 45 mins outside of
GJ) and "closer" areas, why would they bother giving Powderhorn season pass holders 3 free days?? Well that just doesn't make sense because Powderhorn skiers just won't travel that far (according to them). On top of that it's the same amount of time to Monarch as is to Crested Butte, Telluride and Loveland...DUMB! (Just for reference...it takes in between 2.5 - 3 hours to drive to Monarch, Crested Butte, Telluride, Breckenridge, Arapahoe Basin, Kestone, Copper Mountain, and Loveland from Grand Junction).

I just don't feel its fair to say that those of us living in Northwestern Colorado don't drive 2.5, 3 or even 5 hours to find great snow. A friend of mine who is an avid snow seeker left me a
very wise message that confirms everything I have stated.
"People come from all over to see our mountains. They can raise prices and do whatever they want to stay open cause it's their business they're running. And they know they can do whatever they want and people will still come from all over or "over the hills through the trees across the rivers for new pow pow"
Almost all mtn towns in Colorado have some kind of college nearby. They don't give a shit about others having to spend their hard earned dollars. They know any snowbum will digits out a way to go ride.

They won't listen. They never will. They don't give a shit."

Other responses I have gotten have been:
"Yeah! If there's fresh snow and it's a cheap ticket I'll drive 3 hours to go. Geeze!
" -HT
"Durango definitely...at least they have half day tickets so you can drive down and ski the same day..." -JN

The thing is that I KNOW we ARE VERY willing to brave the blistery passes AND DO go out of
our way to seek the freshest and fluffiest of powder, WE ARE FROM COLORADO!!! We are damn proud of our mountains and their snow and we will do anything to get at it!!! We need to speak up and let 'em know. Let's get some deals for us long distance travelers already!

Here I show evidence of myself and friends visiting those oh so far away and right next door places...Aspen, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Crested Butte, Durango, Loveland, Monarch, Powderhorn, Telluride, and Wolf Creek.

Nice pics. Specially the "catching air on the board." Ever considered a career in editorial writing?
